On this retreat David Gillon will be teaching tai chi and Dharmakra will be leading meditation. This retreat is suitable both for beginners and experienced people in both Tai Chi and meditation. David teaches tai chi in St Albans and is one of the UKs senior instructors in the Taiji School of Central Equilibrium created by Wee Kee Jin. This particular system is a very clear and practical method for learning tai chi. The basics of the movements can be shown to come out of simple sequences of relaxation. These are the fundamental loosening exercises. Once there is some understanding of these we can apply them to the tai chi forms with a richer and satisfying quality to our movement. Dharmakara teaches meditation and tai chi at the FWBO centre in Brighton. He is also trained in the Taiji School of Central Equilibrium. On this retreat he will be teaching the traditional Buddhist practices of Mindfulness of Breathing and Mettabhavana. There will also be an exploration of how these sitting practices relate to the moving practices in tai chi. In the evening there will be an opportunity to practice puja for those that want to. Some of the more poetic histories of tai chi relate to how their founders were inspired by the graceful movements in nature and tried to copy this spirit in their practice. Performing tai chi ourselves in nature on a retreat like this is a great way for us to feel profoundly at home on our planet.
Please note this year there will be a £10 charge to bring a car on retreat, which will go towards our permaculture and tree planting project. If you are travelling to this retreat by car and can offer someone a lift please offer your lift on the FreeWheelers site.
