Buddhafield Festival 2008 - Kids, Teens and Toddlers Areas
The Kids Area is central to the Buddhafield Festival. It's run by Magical Youth Theatre Company (led up by Helen Hat) in collaboration with Buddhafield.
Some of the activities offered are: arts/crafts; trampolines; swingboats; music; clowning; games; dressing up; processions; storytelling; creating plays from stories, mostly Buddhist ones; participation in the big Festival rituals. We also create a fun, safe space for parents and toddlers. In 2003 we introduced meditation games and meditative 'story journeys' and want to continue to explore what a kids area at a Buddhist Festival can offer. We also now have a separate 'Be-Tween Ages Space' for older children and teenagers, offering djing, circus skills, art, acrobatics, discussions.
We really want to involve more people from the sangha in the kids and teens area:
1) To work with the children and teens: a) running/assisting with activities b) being available to talk/answer questions, for example about buddhism, the theme of the festival, the rituals
2) To work with the the Kids and Teens teams: a) giving support from a dharma perspective, b) explaining the theme of the festival and helping the team incorporate the theme in activities they lead.
